My son didn’t like his bratwurst, so I left a vote out for the raccoons. Widey showed up to claim the prize.
Pumpkin Pie
I set out a leftover slice of pumpkin pie.
The raccoon makes off with the larger portion of the slice, then returns later for the rest.
Omelet, Part Two
I put out the second half of Evan’s omelet, with the last of the expired eggs.
A raccoon finds the food and tries to take the whole dish, nearly spilling the food before setting it down. It then picks up the omelet with its teeth, but most of it breaks off and gets left behind.
About a minute later, the raccoon returns, eats the entire omelet, then checks to see if there’s any cat food.
A couple hours later, a different raccoon very excitedly grabs the egg with both hands and bites it (probably to carry it away by mouth.) A second raccoon looks in the garage, but doesn’t enter.
Nothing to See Here
Omelet Test
A raccoon takes Evan’s leftover omelet from Ogie’s Cafe.
Bran Flakes
Today’s experiment is some leftover cereal no one wanted. Hospitality 40% Bran Flakes. (Just buy Raisin Bran next time.) I have some expired eggs, so I put one in for good measure.
At least two raccoons are involved in this video.
The first enters and begins to eat the bran flakes. This might be the mother, who then leaves in an attempt to draw way one of her kits. The ruse has worked before. A raccoon looks in the twice before entering and attempting to steal the bowl, which promptly spills. The first raccoon (?) returns, sending the egg rolling across the floor. The second raccoon quickly steals the bowl, spilling what’s left outside.
The first raccoon, not finding any cat food, checks the area and leaves.
A raccoon eats the bran flakes which spilled outside the garage.
A raccoon returns to eat more bran flakes inside the garage, leaving when another raccoon shows up to expertly retrieve the egg.
Stealing Hot Dog
I’ve tried to stop feeding raccoons, but sometimes I leave out leftovers. Here we have an uneaten hot dog my nephew got at a Halloween trunk-or-treat activity.
The first raccoon made off with the larger portion of the hot dog, while the second grabbed the empty dish.
Although the dish was discarded nearby, eight minutes passed before a raccoon came for the rest of the hot dog.
Dexterous Steal
Raccoons don’t like to share food. This raccoon has perfected the art of stealing the cat dish, without spilling the food.
