2023-02-11 Stray Cat

A stray cat checks out the house I built for the raccoons, but seems to find it similarly inadequate.

The cat then approaches the garage, but is sent away by Pippen (our resident stray cat.)

The cat checks out the tires and large shed.

The cat pokes its head under the smaller shed, but mat least one raccoon is in the den.

The cat explores the tire tunnel.

One last check of the raccoon den . . .

Finally giving up, the cat passes into the field. This is the first cat I’ve seen actually climb the fence, rather than jumping.

Stray Cat in Garage

A stray cat wandered into our garage. Ironically, it has white and black bands on its tail, just like a raccoon.

Rosie and Pippen appear to be out of the garage. There is no food or water in the cat dish, so the only real reason to stay is to rest and get warm.

After about 25 minutes, the visitor leaves.

Indecisive Cal

Cal climbs the tree from the field, then hesitates at the top of the fence. Like the raccoons, he probably wanted to use the tires leaning against the fence to help on the way down. Snow covering everything apparently made him re-think his destination.

After surveying his options, Cal returns to the field.

Cal, the Calico Cat, on the Fence

For the last couple nights, the first action recorded was Widey coming over the fence from the field. Tonight it was a male calico cat we’ll name Cal. Instead of climbing, he jumps, but still follows the same path the raccoons use. He even pauses at the top to try licking his hands.

In black and white, Cal looks a lot like our cat, Rosie, who was in the garage 15 minutes earlier.

Widey crosses from the field eight minutes after Cal leaves, passing a raccoon from the shed at the top of the fence.
